I love to read! Nothing better on a cold rainy/snowy day than curling up on a soft sofa with a good book and a hot drink. Fireplace and cat/dog optional. Or a hot day, lounging on the porch with a good book and a cold drink.
I can’t remember ever not reading or loving books, beginning with distant memories of a small girl walking through the door of the nearest library and staring in wonder at all the books…so many different worlds just waiting to be entered.
My family were all readers; dad read mostly nonfiction and westerns, my brother sci-fi, and my mother and I read just about everything in between. Bags of books changed hands at every function that involved anyone from my mom’s family. There was much bonding amid exclamations of “oh, I’ve really wanted to read that one”, or “I heard that one wasn’t very good” or maybe, “I didn’t like it, but maybe you will”. I realized it didn’t matter if the book was good or bad. Either way, there was conversation and interaction…and I loved it! The rules were simple, and still apply today : after reading a book, you had to initial it inside the front cover so it wouldn’t come back to you or write “return to….” if you did want it back.
My children are also all readers, some of them caught the bug later than the others, but once bitten, look out! I absolutely loved sitting in bed with them or on my big chair and reading to them. Even though I must confess, on more than one occasion I felt like tossing (okay hurling) Goodnight Moon against the wall just so I didn’t have to read it “just one more time!”. I think I played it pretty cool though, at least my kids never said anything…but then again, maybe that’s why they wanted me to keep reading it? They could be a little sadistic….hmmmm.
Maybe you are in a reading lull…burned out because you always read the same genre or author and you aren’t excited to open up the pages to a new journey. Join a challenge that gets you reading different genre’s and you may be surprised by how much you enjoy something new. Or maybe you’ll hate it and you can be justified when you say you don’t like that genre because you took the plunge and tried it. I am currently in the PopSugar Challenge…google it and see if it’s for you. The Read Harder Challenge is also another one to check out.
So this very rambling post leads back to this….I love to read and I love to share what I read. I’ll be posting reviews containing my thoughts on the book without giving any spoilers (I hope). If you’ve read the same book, please let me know how you feel about it and why. If you’ve never heard of the book but now you think you’ll give it a chance, let me know about that too. Right now I have a new book to crack open and some popcorn to nosh on…see you later-between the pages.
