Selkirk Loop

This tiny piece of the International Selkirk Loop is not the most tranquil walk around, owing to it’s placement between HWY 95 and train tracks, but it is still worth the trip.

The International Selkirk Loop is a 280 mile trip that circles through northern Idaho, into Canada, northeastern Washington and back to Idaho. You can drive it or bike it. If interested check out selkirkloop.org.

The trail head adjacent to the Conoco parking lot on Superior and HWY 95 is where you park, it has nice informational displays and clean bathrooms!

Heads up, it can get noisy. Once you cross under HWY 95, the rest of the trail is between the HWY and the railroad tracks. If you follow the paved path you will get to the pedestrian portion of Long Bridge which takes you over Lake Pend Oreille and into the town of Sagle. Bald eagles like to sit in the trees along this trail so keep an eye up. I saw four, this time alone, and one was sitting up there eating a fish! I didn’t check my fitbit before I began, but I’m guessing I walked about 7000 steps round trip.

The trail does eventually go below HWY level which helps with the noise

If you decide to walk on the beach, it will take you under the Long bridge to another sandy area on the other side. I took a few pics on the other side before my battery died. Not a smart move, make sure you have 100% charge before you head out!

Also from January walk
